Why Are My Krita Brushes Not Showing Up After Importing?
If you've imported custom brushes into Krita and they're not showing up or appearing correctly in your brush presets, several factors could be at play.
This issue often happens due to improper brush installation, settings conflicts, or a problem with Krita’s configuration files.
Start by confirming that the brush files are correctly placed in the right directory.
Krita uses specific folders to store brush presets, and brushes need to be imported into the correct location.
Navigate to Settings > Manage Resources
and check if your brushes are in the Brushes
folder.
If the brushes are in another folder or misplaced, Krita may fail to recognize them.
Once you've confirmed that the brush files are in the correct directory, try restarting Krita to refresh its cache.
Sometimes, brushes won’t show up until the program reloads.
If they still don't appear, check the brush preset type.
Some brushes are designed for specific brush engines (e.g., Pixel, Soft, or Shape), and they may not show up unless they're applied to a compatible engine.
To address this, navigate to Brush Settings > Engine
and ensure that the brush is set to the correct engine.
Additionally, check the file format of the brush you're importing.
Krita supports .kpp
(Krita brush presets) and .gbr
(GIMP brushes), but if the brush file is in an unsupported format, it won’t load properly.
Try converting the brush to a supported format before importing it again.
Another reason could be an issue with Krita’s resource management.
Sometimes, Krita’s configuration files may get corrupted, preventing it from loading new brushes correctly.
To fix this, try resetting Krita’s configuration by going to Settings > Configure Krita > Reset Settings
.
This will restore Krita to its default state, but be aware that it will also reset all other customizations, so back up your settings if needed.
If the brushes still aren’t appearing, check whether the resources were imported correctly.
You can manually add new resources by dragging and dropping the brush files into the Brushes
tab in the Manage Resources
section.
Lastly, ensure you're using the latest version of Krita.
Updates frequently fix bugs related to resource management.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Krita’s support forums with details of your brush files and installation steps for additional help.
