How to Fix "Photoshop Brushes Not Showing"
Photoshop brushes are one of the most important tools for creating artwork, and if they stop showing up or functioning properly, it can severely disrupt your workflow.
The first step in resolving this issue is to check the brush settings.
Ensure that you haven’t accidentally set the brush to a size or opacity that makes it invisible on your canvas.
You can reset the brush tool by right-clicking on the brush icon in the options bar and selecting Reset Tool. If the brushes still don’t appear, it could be due to a corrupted brush preset.
In this case, try deleting the current brush presets and reloading the default ones.
Go to Edit > Presets > Preset Manager
, select Brushes from the dropdown, and click “Delete.” Then, choose Load and load the default brush set from Photoshop’s installation files.
Another possible cause is a problem with Photoshop’s preferences.
Resetting preferences can resolve many issues, including brush-related problems.
Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift
(Windows) or Command + Option + Shift
(macOS) while launching Photoshop, and confirm that you want to reset the preferences.
If brushes still don’t show up, check the file size and resolution of the image you’re working on.
Photoshop brushes may not display correctly on very large or very low-resolution files.
Try working on a smaller file to see if the issue persists.
Additionally, check for conflicts with third-party plugins or extensions.
Try disabling them temporarily by launching Photoshop in Safe Mode (hold Shift
while starting the application).
If the brushes appear in Safe Mode, one of the plugins is likely causing the issue.
Finally, check if your system is running out of memory.
Photoshop’s brushes are memory-intensive, and if there isn’t enough available RAM, some brushes may fail to load.
Try closing other applications and increasing the available memory in Photoshop’s preferences.
If none of these steps work, consider reinstalling Photoshop to resolve any underlying software issues.
