Procreate Auto-Save Feature Causing Files to Save Over and Over Again
Procreate’s auto-save feature is designed to automatically save your work as you go, but it can sometimes cause files to save repeatedly, creating a problem for users who want to control when their files are saved.
The repeated saving can result in an over-saturation of temporary files, and some users may find it overwhelming when Procreate constantly writes data to the file.
To fix this issue, start by checking the file size.
If your file is particularly large, Procreate will save your progress more often to avoid any data loss in case of a crash.
If you’re not happy with this behavior, try reducing the resolution of the canvas or the number of layers in your project.
This will decrease the frequency of auto-saves and make the app run more smoothly.
Another solution is to turn off the auto-save feature temporarily.
Unfortunately, Procreate doesn’t have an official setting to disable auto-save completely, but you can minimize its frequency by switching to a smaller canvas or by adjusting the way you manage your layers.
For example, merging layers that no longer need to be separate can reduce the number of changes Procreate has to track, thus limiting the frequency of auto-saves.
Additionally, consider manually saving your work at intervals you’re comfortable with.
When working on large files, it's a good habit to make manual saves often, so you're not at risk of losing data between automatic saves.
If the app seems to be saving too often or too slowly, check your iPad’s storage capacity.
Sometimes, Procreate can slow down if the device’s memory is full.
Free up space by deleting unused files, apps, or other data to improve Procreate’s performance.
Finally, ensure that your iPad’s operating system is updated to the latest version, as certain bugs related to saving and auto-saving may be addressed in newer iOS updates.
