Procreate Crashing When Saving or Exporting Large Files
One of the common frustrations with Procreate is experiencing crashes when saving or exporting large files.
This problem is often related to the app exceeding the available system resources, particularly RAM.
First, ensure you’re saving your work regularly to avoid losing progress.
If the app crashes during export, it may be because the file size is too large for the device to handle.
One solution is to reduce the file size before exporting by decreasing the resolution of the canvas or the number of layers.
You can merge layers that are no longer editable to reduce the strain on memory.
Another option is to export in a more compressed format, such as JPEG or PNG, as opposed to exporting as a PSD or TIFF, which retain higher resolutions and more data.
If exporting as a lower-resolution file is not an option, try using the Share feature to save to cloud storage directly, which sometimes bypasses the export limitations.
If the crashes continue, ensure Procreate is updated to the latest version, as bugs related to crashes are often fixed in updates.
Sometimes, clearing Procreate’s cache can also resolve performance issues and stop the crashes.
You can do this by restarting the app, which resets its memory usage.
Additionally, check your iPad's storage settings.
If the device is running low on available storage, Procreate might not have enough space to save large files.
In such cases, try freeing up space on the device by offloading unused apps or deleting unnecessary files.
Finally, if all else fails, try reinstalling Procreate.
A fresh installation can often resolve software glitches and file corruption issues that may cause crashes.
