MacOS -128: Resolving File Deletion Issues in Finder
The -128
error in macOS typically occurs when you're trying to delete or move a file, and it’s usually caused by system processes that are still using the file or file system corruption.
To fix this, first ensure that the file is not open or being used by any applications.
Use the Activity Monitor
app to check for any processes that might be using the file.
If any processes are found, quit them and try deleting the file again.
If the file still won't delete, try booting your Mac into Safe Mode by holding down the Shift
key during startup.
Safe Mode prevents unnecessary system processes from running and might help resolve the issue.
Once in Safe Mode, try deleting the file again.
If you're unable to delete the file in Safe Mode, open Terminal
and type sudo rm -rf
followed by the path to the file you want to delete.
This will force the file to be removed.
If the problem is due to file system corruption, run the First Aid
tool in Disk Utility to check and repair any disk errors that might be preventing the file from being deleted.
